Yoga is a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India. Hatha Yoga in its many modern variations is the style that most people actually associate with the word "Yoga" today.

In the West, Hatha Yoga focuses on shatkarma, the purification of the physical as leading to the purification of the mind (ha) and prana, or vital energy (tha).  Because its emphasis is on the body through asana and pranayama practice, many western students are satisfied with the physical health and vitality it develops.

 Iyengar Yoga, created by B.K.S. Iyengar, is a form of yoga known for its use of props, such as belts and blocks, as aids in performing asanas .  Through the practice of a system of asanas, it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well being. Iyengar Yoga is considered a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life which in turn can help promote total physical and spiritual well being.
